Mysterious Mill-Pond

Standard

On our way back from Canada, we stopped at Snoqualmie Washington and went to this old mill-pond where I had taken a favorite photo before. It looked so different and mysterious on this cloudy day and I didn’t think the reflection was as good as the photo I had taken about three years prior. There is a certain stillness that fills this photo though and I’m glad we stopped and didn’t just disregard the moment.

We returned the following day with the hope for a better reflection. The sun was out and shining but the reflection wasn’t nearly as good. It’s the same place only so very different from the previous day. Once again I took photos and found that quiet stillness in the mill-pond surroundings.

Morning Old Mill Road

I like the first one best, well that, and the one I took three years ago. I’ve learned over time that I should always stop and try to capture what my mind is telling me is worthy of a picture. Life is a little that way too, I should always listen to my heart and move forward on those things I think I should pursue. As we age, we realize the importance in fully living each and every day.

Corals and Crimson

With the recent large waves that have been crashing into the California Coast and Hawaii, I’ve been reflecting on the stillness that can also be found on the coast.  One of my favorite places is Half Moon Bay during very low tide and sunset.  There is a magical presence that I find there.  It revives my soul and calms my spirit.

I’ve also been thinking about the old saying, “home is where the heart is.”  I always thought that saying was referring to a structure but I think I was wrong.  Anywhere can be home as long as you find peace in that place.  Even fond memories can be home if they lighten your spirit, like the childhood memory of warm sand moving in-between your toes.  I find that I need to keep these pleasant thoughts close to me in this chaotic world that we find ourselves living in.

I want to share one other sunset that wants to linger in my mind.  It was beautiful and the company devine.  The whole trip was such a wonderful time.

Waves are everywhere, pounding and changing the landscape but in my mind it will always look like this until I return again.  It was almost a bronze color and then in an instant it returned to grayish white.  This is one of the places my heart finds it’s home.  I never want to let go of those lovely memories.  I hope this stirs up some lovely memories that you want to hold on to also.

Stepping Outside

Standard

I’ve been noticing lately that there is a stillness about this season that I haven’t noticed before.  It’s very hard to capture that feeling in a photo.

Fall Stillness

Fall Stillness

There’s been no swirling winds that knock the leaves off the branches.  It’s just been incredibly still.  I’m a little worried that we won’t get rain again this winter.

Turning Leaves in Bidwell Park

Turning Leaves in Bidwell Park

I went to Bidwell Park in Chico, California when I was visiting the other day, with the hope that the leaves would be colorful and falling from the trees.  The leaves were just starting to turn and there were so many acorns that it seemed as if they were raining from the sky.  The chatter in the trees was amazing to listen to as the acorns fell from above.

Illusive Butterfly

Illusive Butterfly

Little did I realize that all I needed to do was step outside into my own backyard to find a sight that I don’t usually see.  We often have Swallowtail butterflies in the yard but seldom do you see a Monarch.

So when I saw this, I grabbed my camera and waited……and chased……..and waited……and chased……and waited.  This was a very shy butterfly.

My patience paid off and I can return to the calm that continues to surround this season.
