Corner Stone

Standard

A couple of weeks ago we seized the opportunity to go over to Sonoma with some family members and share a day in the sunshine, which was very hard to come by at that time. We went to Corner Stone right outside of Sonoma for lunch and a little wandering through the gardens on that lovely day. The place is rather new and is a really great place to go to relax. I’d say that they have a little bit of everything there with their shops, gardens, restaurants, distillery, etc. There really is something for everyone there.

As Spring approaches, we should step out and find those places that are unique and worthy of our wandering. You never know what you might find in your own backyard, so to speak.

The next blog will show you the big reveal of the kitchen remodel. It is nearly finished and I am loving the new space. It reminds me of Santa Cruz. That’s a great way to begin and end every day.

Lovely Lake Okanagan

Standard

Last week we took a trip to Lake Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada. We just happened to be there while the trees were turning golden. It was quiet and slow-paced, as the summer tourists had returned home. It was the perfect Fall vacation.

We were staying in Kelowna, near the Lakeshore Wine Route. We didn’t have a meal that wasn’t spectacular, the locals were friendly, and the weather was wonderful. This is a place I want to return to someday, perhaps at another time of the year so we can experience it during a different  season. We traveled there with friends, took in wineries, (accidentally) saw Will & Kate’s motorcade and Kate’s waving hand, sipped and painted on the deck, and played cards. We came back fully refreshed. I realized that you don’t have to go very far to find a place that rejuvenates you with its stunning silence and beauty. You just have to look and listen.

Counting Clouds

Standard

We certainly have had some amazing cloud cover recently.  Last weekend we went to the Suisun Valley to listen to a friend play with his band.  The day was so nice and the clouds were promising rain.

The colors in the valley were amazing and I was sure that the dark clouds were coming our way.

We could see the lightning and hear the thunder, our rainfall was about six and a half drops.  They were tiny drops too.  I know it’s coming someday.  I just wished it was that day.

I shouldn’t forget that, once it rains, I won’t be seeing such beauty about me.  It will be grey, wet, and cold and I will be hoping for views like this again with the promise of rain off in the distance.

Sun Setting Behind the Ridge

Sun Setting Behind the Ridge

The gathering of clouds

I could not ignore

As I stood in the sun

On this valley floor

Soon the hills rumbled

With thunderous cries

As lightning threw sparks

And lit up the skies

I stood still in sunshine

Wishing the rain

Would fall in this place

But my wish was in-vain

Why aren’t we just happy with what we get?

Shadows and Light

We ran out to the Suisun Valley last evening to capture a few images of the grapes while they were still on the vine.

These grapes were due to be picked very early this morning.    I don’t need to tell you that these grapes will make some luscious red wine.

Autumn is Nearing

What I do need to tell you is that the Suisun Valley is an up and coming place to go taste wine.  It was just written up in The North Bay Business Journal and there are some, long established, Napa wineries that are moving into this valley.

Calm Before the Harvest

Calm Before the Harvest

It’s not very far to go for many of us.  It doesn’t have the crowds, the expensive tasting fees, or trouble with parking.

Beautiful Bunches

It does have friendly people, good wine, and lovely picnic areas.  You’d better go try it before the word gets out.  I am lucky; it’s virtually in my backyard.

Quiet Little Valley

Quiet Little Valley

In a few weeks this valley will be ablaze of yellows, reds, and oranges.  The harvest is in and Autumn is here.  Drink in all those colors that life has to offer.
